About this event
Requiem for Adrift & Shattered was initially conceived to examine realities of the human condition that unite us in today’s world. The four newly composed works for solo piano explored themes of loss, joy, the search for rest, and injustice alongside poems and three short film chapters. The program’s goal was to offer audiences collective pathways for reflection, deep feeling, and enjoyment through art. In this collaboration with CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Requiem for the Adrift & Shattered has taken on even deeper meaning thanks to the profound vision and lessons of Holocaust survivor and Terre Haute resident Eva Mozes Kor. Inspired by Eva’s life-changing self-empowerment after forgiving her Nazi perpetrators, Requiem seeks to rise above the challenges that plague us in 2026: grief, loneliness, fear, anger… It aims to welcome listeners to come as they are, without judgement or self-doubt, and to provide a space for all to find a common good to believe in. Audiences can expect solo piano works performed by acclaimed concert pianist Clare Longendyke, alongside live readings from Eva Kor’s memoir Surviving the Angel of Death: The Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz, read by her son, Dr. Alex Kor. A pre-performance talk at 3:15 pm will offer audiences insights into the project. A brief Q&A following the performance will create space for listeners to share their feedback and ask questions. Music to be performed: Rex Isenberg, Lead Me To Rest Reinaldo Moya, Sé que en la sombra hay Otro Nkeiru Okoye, Clouds Welling Emily Koh, reperiõ David Rhodes, Terrain Marcos Balter, Dreamcatcher Nebal Maysaud, New Commission TBA
